  23. I.     REMOVING PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED CREATIVE DRIVERS
  24.        ==============================================
  25.  
  26.    1. Log on to your computer as an Administrator.
  27.  
  28.    2. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click
  29.       Control Panel.
  30.  
  31.    3. Double-click the Multimedia icon.
  32.  
  33.    4. On the Devices tab, remove entries with the term "Creative"
  34.       from under Audio Devices and MIDI Devices And Instruments.
  35.       These are the previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  36.  
  37.       NOTE: Do Not Remove the MIDI for Low Level Wave, MIDI, and
  38.             AUX support listed under MIDI Devices and Instruments.
  39.  
  40.    5. Restart your computer when prompted.

  45. II. INSTALLING CREATIVE PLUG-N-PLAY AUDIO CARDS ON WINDOWS NT 4.0
  46.                WITHOUT SERVICE PACK 3 INSTALLED
  47.     =============================================================
  48.  
  49. 1. Please remove all previously installed Creative drivers before
  50.    beginning the installation.  (See Part I for instructions)
  51.  
  52. 2. Make sure you have the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD in the CDROM
  53.       drive (<CDROM_Drive>).
  54.  
  55. 3. Open Windows NT Explorer.  Go to <CDROM_Drive>\DRVLIB\PNPISA\X86.
  56.  
  57. 4. Right click on PNPISA.INF and select Install (if you don't see this
  58.    file, click View \ Options \ View \ and select "Show all Files" and
  59.    unselect "Hide extensions for known file types").
  60.  
  61. 5. Restart your computer when prompted.
  62.  
  63. 6. Log on to your computer as an Administrator.
  64.  
  65. 7. You should see a series of "New Hardware Found" dialog boxes.
  66.    If you do not, minimize all the open windows on the desktop or
  67.    refer to Known Issues at the end of this section.  You should then
  68.    be prompted to install drivers for several functions on your card
  69.    such as (sequence may differ slightly):
  70.  
  71. For Creative Sound Blaster <16/32/64> Plug and Play (Audio)
  72. (applicable for SB16, SB32, AWE32, and AWE64 cards):
  73. ------------------------------------------------------------------
  74.    a) Choose "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer".
  75.  
  76.    b) Enter the path to the contents of AWENT40.EXE. (i.e. C:\TEMP)
  77.  
  78.    c) Select OK on the Select Device screen.
  79.  
  80.    d) If no resources are given select "Set Configuration Manually".
  81.  
  82.    e) If there are conflicting devices at the bottom of the screen,
  83.       resolve them first by selecting basic configuration 0001, then
  84.       highlight the offending setting in the Resource Settings window.
  85.       Click on Change Setting, and select a setting that does not
  86.       conflict with another device.  Select OK when finished.  Repeat
  87.       for any settings that show a conflict.
  88.  
  89.  
  90. For Microsoft Joystick Port Enabler
  91. (May say "Creative Sound Blaster <16/32/64> Plug and Play (Game)")
  92. (applicable for all Creative cards):

  94.    a) Choose "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer".

  96.    b) Enter the path <CDROM_Drive>\DRVLIB\AUDIO\SBPNP\i386.

  98.    c) Select OK on the Select Device screen.

  100.    d) If no resources are given select "Set Configuration Manually".

  102.    e) If there are conflicting devices at the bottom of the screen,
  103.       resolve them first by selecting basic configuration 0001, then

  121.    e) If there are conflicting devices at the bottom of the screen,
  122.       resolve them first by selecting a basic configuration that does

  126. For Creative 3D Stereo Enhancement Technology
  127. (applicable for SB16, SB32, AWE32, and AWE64 cards):

  129.    Select "Windows NT default driver".

  132. For IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller
  133. (applicable for SB16, SB32, AWE32, and AWE64 IDE cards):

  135.    Select "Do not install a driver (Windows NT will not prompt you
  136.       again)".
  137.  
  138.  
  139. 8. Restart your computer when prompted.
  140.  
  141. * Your Sound Blaster card should be working properly at this point.
  142.   If you need to change the resources that your card is using, open
  143.   the Multimedia Control Panel applet, select the "Devices" tab,
  144.   select "Properties" for the Sound Blaster driver, and click on the
  145.   "Settings" button.  This will bring up the same resource-picking
  146.   dialog that was invoked when installing the device.
  147.  
  148.  
  149. Known issues
  150. ------------
  151. - If you have problems setting up your Sound Blaster PnP card and you
  152.   have a PnP BIOS on your computer, you may have to toggle the setting
  153.   in the CMOS (enable PnP or disable PnP).  Consult your computer
  154.   manual or the manufacturer for information on toggling the PnP on
  155.   your BIOS.
  156.  
  157. - You can install only one Sound Blaster audio card on your computer.
  158. ======================================================================

  162. III. INSTALLING CREATIVE PLUG-N-PLAY AUDIO CARDS ON WINDOWS NT 4.0
  163.                  WITH SERVICE PACK 3 INSTALLED
  164.     =============================================================
  165.  
  166. A.  EXTRACTING SERVICE PACK 3 FILES (If not installed from CD)
  167.  
  168.    1. From Command Prompt, go to the directory which contains the
  169.       downloaded NT Service Pack 3 installation file, NT4SP3_I.EXE.
  170.       (i.e. C:\SERPAK)
  171.  
  172.    2. Extract the Service Pack 3 files (minimum 55 MB free hard disk
  173.       space required) by typing the following command:
  174.         C:\SERPAK\NT4SP3_I /X
  175.  
  176.           Where C:\SERPAK is the directory containing the
  177.           downloaded Service Pack 3 installation file.
  178.  
  179.       During extraction, you will be prompted for a temporary
  180.       directory to extract the files to. (i.e. C:\SP3)
  181.  
  182.       (The /X switch extracts the files to a separate directory without
  183.        automaticly installing any of the SP3 drivers.)
  184.  
  185. B.  INSTALLING NEW DRIVERS (No previous Creative drivers installed)
  186.  
  187.    1. Make sure you have the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD in the CDROM
  188.       drive (<CDROM_Drive>).
  189.  
  190.    2. Open Windows NT Explorer.  Go to <CDROM_Drive>\DRVLIB\PNPISA\X86.
  191.  
  192.    3. Right click on PNPISA.INF and select Install (if you don't see
  193.       this file, click View \ Options \ View \ and select "Show all
  194.       Files" and unselect "Hide extensions for known file types").
  195.  
  196.    4. Restart your computer when prompted.
  197.  
  198.    5. Log on to your computer as an Administrator. You should see a
  199.       series of "Insert Service Pack CD" dialog boxes.
  200.       ----------------------------------------------------------------
  201.       If Service Pack 3 was installed from CD, then insert the CD into
  202.       the CD-ROM drive and click on OK.  If prompted, enter the path
  203.       to the Service Pack directory on the CD.
  204.       (i.e. <CDROM Drive>\i386)
  205.  
  206.       Repeat until prompted to reboot the computer.
  207.       ----------------------------------------------------------------
  208.       If Service Pack 3 was not installed from CD, then click OK.
  209.       When prompted provide the path to the directory where you
  210.       expanded the Service Pack 3 file.  (i.e. C:\SP3)
  211.  
  212.       Repeat until prompted to reboot the computer.
  213.       ----------------------------------------------------------------
  214.  
  215.    6. Restart your computer when prompted.
  216.  
  217.    * You may now follow the next section on upgrading drivers to
  218.      allow full duplex.
  219.  
  220.  
  221. C.  UPGRADING DRIVERS (Previous Creative drivers installed)
  222.  
  223.    1. Remove all previously installed Creative drivers.
  224.       (See Part I for instructions)
  225.  
  226.    2. Restart your computer when prompted.
  227.  
  228.    3. Log on to your computer as an Administrator.
  229.       You should see a series of "New Hardware Found" dialog boxes.
  230.  
  231.    4. At the "New Hardware Found" dialog box, click the No button.
  232.  
  233.    5. At the "Files Needed" dialog box where you are prompted to
  234.       insert the Service Pack CD-ROM, click the Cancel button.
  235.  
  236.    6. Click the Start button on the taskbar, point to Programs, and
  237.       then click Command Prompt.  Change to the directory containing
  238.       the contents of AWENT40.EXE. (i.e. C:\TEMP)
  239.  
  240.    7. If Service Pack 3 has been installed from CD, please remove the
  241.       Windows NT CD from the CD-ROM drive, insert the Service Pack 3
  242.       CD and run the following command
  243.         <CD-ROM Drive>\i386\DEVPRE DEVUPD.INF
  244.  
  245.       If Service Pack 3 was installed from the downloaded NT Service
  246.       Pack 3 installation file, run the following command
  247.         C:\SP3\DEVPRE DEVUPD.INF
  248.  
  249.           Where C:\SP3 is the directory containing the extracted
  250.           Service Pack 3 files.
  251.  
  252.    8. If asked to replace current drivers with those provided by
  253.       Creative, click Yes.
  254.  
  255.    9. Restart NT if prompted.
  256.  
  257.   10. If no resources are given select "Set Configuration Manually".
  258.  
  259.   11. If there are conflicting devices at the bottom of the screen,
  260.       resolve them first by selecting Basic Configuration 0001, then
  261.       highlight the offending setting in the Resource Settings window.
  262.       Click on Change Setting, and select a setting that does not
  263.       conflict with another device.  Select OK when finished.  Repeat
  264.       for any settings that show a conflict.
  265.  
  266.   12. If "No conflicts" appears in the Conflicting Device List, click
  267.       on the OK button.
  268.  
  269.   13. If your Joystick Port is not detected here it will be detected after
  270.       restarting.  When prompted for the Joystick Port drivers browse to
  271.       the directory where you installed the Service Pack 3 e.g. C:\SP3.
  272.  
  273.   14. Restart your computer when prompted.
  274.  
  275. * Your Sound Blaster card should be working properly at this point.
  276.   If you need to change the resources that your card is using, open
  277.   the Multimedia Control Panel applet, select the "Devices" tab,
  278.   select "Properties" for the Sound Blaster driver, and click on the
  279.   "Settings" button.  This will bring up the same resource-picking
  280.   dialog that was invoked when installing the device.

  285. IV.   INSTALLING CREATIVE LEGACY AUDIO CARDS ON WINDOWS NT 4.0
  286.       ========================================================
  287.  
  288.  1. Please remove all previously installed Creative drivers before
  289.     beginning the installation.  (See Part I for instructions)
  290.  
  291.  2. Log on to your computer as an Administrator.
  292.  
  293.  3. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
  294.     Panel.
  295.  
  296.  4. Double-click the Multimedia icon.
  297.  
  298.  5. Click the Add button.
  299.  
  300.  6. In the List Of Drivers box on the Add dialog box, click Unlisted
  301.     Or Updated Driver, and click the OK button.
  302.  
  303.  7. Enter the path to the contents of AWENT40.EXE. (i.e. C:\TEMP)
  304.  
  305.  8. In the Add Unlisted Or Updated Driver dialog box, click Creative
  306.     Sound Blaster 16, and then click the OK button.
  307.  
  308.  9. Click the New button.
  309.  
  310. 10. When prompted, select the Sound Blaster hardware settings such as
  311.     base I/O address, DMA, IRQ and MPU-401 port settings.
  312.     All the .SYS files will be copied into the
  313.     C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. The .ACV and .DLL files will
  314.     be copied into the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory.
  315.  
  316. 11. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to restart
  317.     your computer.
  318.  
  319.        * If your card is an SB16, click the Restart Now button.
  320.          Your installation ends here.
  321.  
  322.        * If your card is an AWE32 or an SB32 card,
  323.          click the Don't Restart Now button.
  324.  
  325. 12. Repeat steps 5 to 7.
  326.  
  327. 13. In the Add Unlisted Or Updated Driver dialog box, click Creative
  328.     Sound Blaster AWE32 MIDI Synth, and then click the OK button.
  329.  
  330. 14. Repeat steps 9 to 10.
  331.  
  332. 15. Restart your computer when prompted.
  333.  
  334. * Your Sound Blaster card should be working properly at this point.
  335.   If you need to change the resources that your card is using, open
  336.   the Multimedia Control Panel applet, select the "Devices" tab,
  337.   select "Properties" for the Sound Blaster driver, and click on the
  338.   "Settings" button.  This will bring up the same resource-picking
  339.   dialog that was invoked when installing the device.

  343.     V.   Installing AWE Control Panel (for SB32/AWE32/AWE64/AWE64G only)
  344.    ======================================================================
  345.  
  346.     1. Create a directory in your system. You can use any directory
  347.        name of your choice, e.g. c:\awe32cp
  348.  
  349.     2. Copy the following files into the directory you have created:
  350.        - AWECP32.EXE      AWE Control Panel application.
  351.        - AWECP.HLP        AWE Control Panel help file.
  352.        - AWECP.CNT        AWE Control Panel help contents page.
  353.        - AWE32RES.DLL     AWE resource DLL.
  354.        - CTRES32.DLL      Creative resource DLL
  355.  
  356.     3. Copy the following files into the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\ directory:
  357.        - AWEMAN.DLL
  358.        - AWEMAN32.DLL
  359.  
  360.        Note : You may want to create shortcut for AWE Control Panel.
  361.  
  362.        a. Place the mouse cursor at empty space on the desktop.
  363.  
  364.        b. Click the right mouse button
  365.  
  366.        c. Select "New | Shortcut | Browse"
  367.  
  368.        d. Go to directory that you have created for AWE Control Panel and
  369.           select AWECP32.EXE. Follow by "Next | Finish".
  370.  
  371.        Shortcut to AWE Control Panel will be created at desktop.
  372.
